The following PV Modules of
Silex Solar Pty Ltd. were tested by
TÜV Rheinland Japan Ltd.
SLXxxx; xxx = 165, 170, 175, 180,
185 and 190
according to the following standards:
• IEC 61730-1: Requirements for construction and
•IEC 61730-2: Photovoltaic module safety qualification – Requirements for testing
• IEC 61215: Crystalline silicon terrestrial
photovoltaic modules – Design qualification and type approval
The test procedure comprises two major aspects:
1. Sample testing:
The accredited laboratory of TÜV Rheinland runs product tests on selected test samples to verify that these samples are in accordance with the relevant standards and requirements.
The testing includes among other features:
• Hail Test
• Hot-spot endurance test
• UV-exposure test
• Cut susceptibility test
• Damp-heat test
• Humidity-freeze test
• Mechanical load test
• Module breakage test
In addition, the modules are qualified to withstand heavy accumulation of snow and ice.
2. Periodic inspection:
TÜV Rheinland experts perform periodic quality and production control at the manufacturing site(s) to ensure that all produced PV modules are manufactured with the same materials, using the same processes and at the same quality level as the laboratory tested samples.
Product strength testing - Glass & Frame Breakage
SilexSolar conducted glass and frame breakage points of its own prior to sending to TÜV Rheinland for certification.
Demonstrated below are example of the extremes that we put the product through and illustrate why we confidently provide our product guarantee.
Glass Breakage Test:
The SLX Series Panel glass was subjected to a 45.5kg Lead Mass hitting the centre of the panel at a range of heights to generate various speeds and measure Energy, Velocity, Glass Deformation and Force.
For example: The 45.5kg weight object when released from a 1.2m height traveled at 9.81m/sec creating a velocity of 4.85m/sec and a glass deformation of 0.08m
The video below shows a snapshot of one of the many tests.
Frame Breakage Test:
The SLX Series Panel frame was subjected to a dead weight by the SilexSolar team by the way of loading it with bricks. The weight was measured using industrial scales.
The photos below demonstrate the test conducted.
